Most of us would like to work from home at least part-time, but many people are unsure of how to make that a reality. In this series, we will explore how to create a home office that is both functional and stylish. We’ll start with the basics, such as choosing the right space and setting up your furniture, and then move on to more specific topics like storage solutions and decorating tips. So whether you’re just starting out or you’ve been working from home for years, here are some ideas on how to create a home office reveal that will help you get and stay organized.
1. A place for everything
Ideally, you want to create a separate room for your home office that is large enough to accommodate the amount of furniture and storage that you will need. If this is not possible, then try to find an area in another room that has good lighting and is close to the rest of the household activities. We live in a small house, so our home office is a small room that was previously used for storage. We had to be creative with how we created enough space for us both to work comfortably and still open the door all the way!
2. Lighting is essential
Good lighting is an important part of any work environment, but particularly in a home office where you are likely to be doing detailed work or studying. It can be difficult to create strong enough lighting in your home office because of how many other activities might take place there, so try to find the best location for a desk lamp and remember to turn it on before sitting down!
3. Furniture first
The right furniture is key if you want to create an organized home office that is conducive to getting work done. An essential part of this process is knowing what kind of furniture you need, whether it’s a traditional desk or something different. Once you have figured out what type(s) of furniture you’ll need for your office, consider where they will fit in the space and how much storage you will need.
4. Storage is key
In order for your home office to be a place where you can get work done, it needs to have the proper storage solutions in place. From bookcases and filing cabinets to crates and bins, there are many options available for creating storage space in your office area that will keep you organized and maintain a stylish home office.
Creating a home office in a shared space is an added challenge, but it can be done with a little creativity and the right know-how.
